Bed and Breakfast
‘Welcombe-in’ provides a pet-friendly, non-smoking, comfortable base (guest rooms are on the ground floor) for short or long stays in this stunning Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Great breakfasts, home-cooked with eggs from our own hens, local produce and Julie's fabulous bread. Packed lunches and home-cooked evening meals can also be provided for you. ‘Welcombe-in’ is the home of ‘Raisin’ Dough’.
You don’t even have to go out all day because there is a comfortable lounge where you can relax, read (we have a well-stocked library), watch TV, play cards or do a jigsaw. Alternatively, you could sit in the lounge or outside on the patio, with a cuppa or cool drink on the table and binoculars to hand because here you can often see red deer grazing in the field opposite, buzzards spiralling up on a thermal, woodpeckers bounding across the treetops and gangs of finches hop scotching across the fields while the swallows swoop and dive, chittering as they catch their lunch or gather mud for their nests.
‘Welcombe-in’ is just a couple of miles from spectacular Welcombe Mouth on this stunning North Devon coastline.
For great walks there are miles of footpaths and local moorland (Bursdon) with views across to Lundy Island. With unlimited villages, churches and places of interest to visit, many theme centres at which to spend whole days, we are also only an hour or so from such as the Eden Project, Padstow, Newquay and the RHS garden at Rosemoor.
Bude is only 10 miles south with its old-style seaside town atmosphere, great beach and large seawater swimming pool as well as the indoor heated Splash Pool with adjacent bowling alley and activity centre.
A similar distance to the north will find you at Clovelly, where sensible footwear is a must if you are to make the descent down its ancient cobbled ways to refresh yourself in the quayside hostelry.
Local sporting activities include three golf courses, mountain boarding, horse riding, coastal path walking and, of course, surfing and body-boarding. Our recommendation for lessons, from beginners to experts, is the Raven Surf School based at Sandymouth. Surf and Stay packages can be arranged to suit your needs.
